Have a lot of questions about our club, community, and the competitive team? Here is a list of commonly asked questions so you can get the information you’re looking for!
General/Club
Do I need experience?
If this is your first time joining us or just want to try your hand at archery, we offer on-campus beginner lessons throughout the semester – no experience or equipment required. Plus, your first two lessons are free!
How do I become a club member?
You just need to pay club dues! Dues are $120 for the semester or $180 for the whole academic year! We accept Cash App, check, or cash. If you are ready to join, let an officer know at your next practice or contact us with our email.
What if I want to get more involved?
For Club Members, Trojan Archery offers further archery lessons to continue development throughout the semester. Practice is not mandatory and we encourage you to join us and shoot recreationally – for fun! However, we also offer week-by-week lessons for all of our club members – everyone is just steps away from becoming a team member!
Sign up for practice any time for your first lesson, your second lesson, or just to shoot. Our USA Archery-Certified Instructors look forward to working with you. For more information on lessons, click here to visit our website.
What if I can’t come this week after signing up?
If you can’t attend the practice you sign up for, we ask that you please let us know as soon as possible by cancelling through the confirmation email or the original sign up link. Because spaces are limited, no-shows may be de-prioritized in future practices.
We’d like to get as many people into practice as possible, so please do your part in helping us organize practice!
Competitive Team
How can I join the Trojan Archery Competitive Team?
Club members will have the chance to sign up for our team qualification sessions during the last few weeks of September. Members will only have to sign up for one session in which they will shoot and track their scores. After submitting your scores as well as a evaluation process, members will be given an invite to join the competitive team.
Please plan your schedule accordingly on your sign up date as the qualification sessions can last for around 2 hours.
I suck at shooting, should I even join the team?
Yes.
As a team member, you will also have access to team resources, education, as well as a qualified USA Archery coach that will help you improve as an archer. Everyone starts from somewhere.
Do I need my own equipment to shoot on the competitive team?
Absolutely not! Team members will be able to rent equipment from the club based on the bow style they would like to shoot in. However it is highly encouraged that team members should buy some of their own basic equipment such as finger tabs, arm guards, and quivers.
Renting is only available to team members and cost $25 + $100 security deposit for a semester.
What exactly are ‘divisions?’ What style do I shoot?
Divisions divide archers based on the style of bow/equipment they are shooting with. Currently there are four competitive divisions archers can choose to shoot in. You will be shooting in either of these four categories based on the style you are shooting:
– Olympic Recurve
– Barebow Recurve
– Compound
– Fixed Pin Compound
You can learn more about each individual archery style here
What is the commitment like?
The competitive team requires team members to attend at least two practice sessions out of the five practice days per week. As a team member you will have access to our off campus practices Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
How often do we compete?
Trojan Archery attends multiple competitions each academic year, and are split into Indoor Competitive season and Outdoor Competitive Season.
Indoor season competitions runs from late January through February. However there are qualifiers hosted late October to November, where archers will shoot in to be placed in rankings or ‘flights’ before the main competitions in January – February. Team members are expected to attend at least one qualifier and one tournament.
Outdoor season competitions usually take place around April or May, with some optional tournaments in early June. Unlike Indoor season, there are no qualifiers required for Outdoor season and only one main tournament which are optional for team members.
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions at archery@usc.edu.
